FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need a building permit?
Unlike stationary awnings that are bolted to the ground, retractable awnings are considered removable and therefore do not require a building permit.
How long will the installation take?
Professional installation usually takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the size of the awning and the complexity of the installation. As a part of the installation process, the installers will make sure that your expectations have been met, and demonstrate how to operate and care for the awning.
How will an awning hold up in the wind? Can I leave my awning open all the time?
Our awnings are sturdy and do very well in the wind. In tests by an independent laboratory, our SunSetter retractable awnings withstood wind gusts of 55-75 mph. However, we do recommend that you retract them during strong, gusty winds. Our optional Wireless Wind Sensor for motorized models gives you additional peace of mind by closing your awning automatically on very windy days.
I have a Ranch house with low eaves. Will an awning fit on my home?
Yes we have options for everyone. If there is not enough clearance to install the awning on the siding our professional staff can install the awning on your roof with special roof brackets. Our awnings come in a variety of lengths and projections to meet your needs.
What do I do with the awning in the winter?
Even in the case that an awning is under an eave, or the awning was installed with an optional protective hood, it is always advisable to remove the valance for the winter. We offer an awning removal and storage service for the winter months at an affordable price.
If your awning’s fabric cover is exposed when retracted for the winter, a Winter Cover can be purchased that protects the fabric and valance. Our Winter Covers are manufactured from high-quality vinyl, and custom fit to slide easily over your awning. These measures are done to extend the life and beauty of the fabric, and are not truly necessary for the awning to operate correctly. The powder-coated aluminum frame will withstand years of exposure to the elements.
What types of fabric choices are available for my awning?
Depending on the model you choose you will have a variety of awning colors and patterns to choose from. Two different types of fabrics are available on our awnings, woven acrylic fabric and traditional laminated fabric. No matter which type you choose you can’t go wrong. Both are fade and water resistant holding their color beautifully, and offer 99% UVA and UVB protection.
How much does an awning cost?
The majority of our awnings are installed for between $3,500 and $7,000 with size being the biggest factor in determining price. For an accurate quote call us to set up a free in-home consultation.
